Monster to class for B/X-likes SS24
Welp, my first blogging challenge post thing! A bit late since this was supposed to come before Christmas, woopsie.
So, my prompt for the secret santa was to write a brief procedure for turning a monster into a class for B/X, written by Ontross. Can't be that hard right? In any case, I don't have much experience with B/X at all so this will be very hand-wavy.
First, we will use a Fighter as a base, cause most things are fighters. Then, we want to extract the special ability that distinguishes your monster from the rest. For a Gargoyle, I think that's the fact you can't stab or cut them (impervious to non-blunt attacks). Gargoyles are average size so let's say they use d6 hit dice. For bigger monsters, use bigger dice. Finally, were they be underground dwelling, we would give them infra-vision. Gargoyles are a bit fuzzy, so let's not.
Now, to give an illusion of balance, let's put some restrictions like the basic races in the book. Monsters can't wear armor, unless they are humanoid, but get the AC listed in their entry. More importantly, let's give them a prime requisite. The gargoyles special ability is pretty strong, so let's put that at minimum 12 in Con.
And that's it! You can go more in depth of course, but this was supposed to be brief.
